Description
Size 15 cm

Color: Dorsal profile of body greenish to dark gray extending to upper third of flanks; rest of flanks silvery white. Dorsal fin hyaline, dark at its tip. Pectoral, pelvic and anal fins hyaline; caudal fin yellowish, margin black.

Body moderately slender, compressed, its depth 24 to 32% of standard length; belly keeled, with usually 17 to 21 pre-pelvic and 7 to 10 post-pelvic scutes, total 25 to 30 scutes. Eye large, lower jaw projecting. Pseudobranch present, basal half covered by a thin membrane (exposed in other species). Gillrakers 20 to 31 on lower arm of first arch. Teeth in a single series in both jaws. Dorsal fin with 13 or 14 branched rays, its origin slightly nearer snout tip than caudal fin base. Anal fin with 35 to 42 branched rays, its origin below 8th to 10th dorsal ray. Pelvic fins very short, with no axillary scale. Vertical striae on scales not continuous, but with a distinct gap across center of scale. Swim bladder with two tubes passing back in the muscles on either side of haemal spines. Dorsal spines (total): 0; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 38 - 46.
