Plants light purple in color, up to 3-4 cm tall, erect, calcified, articulated, erect fronds cylindrical to flattened, dichotomously branched arising from a small, circular, basal disc; branching regular, pinnate or dichotomous, approaching cymoid, with many transitory types, usually somewhat lax, small proliferations arise from the segments or intergenicula; ultimate intergenicula with spatulate tips; tetrasporic conceptacles borne in small terminal cymoid cluster.
