Color: Thallus purple-green to olive-brown.

Thallus gregarious or solitary, cartilaginous. Branching alternate or irregular, branches proximally 1-2 mm diameter, distally densely covered with perpendicularly arranged branchlets. Branchlets short, crowded, knobby, club-like; apices tufted with inconspicuous fine filaments forming in terminal depression. Medullary cells 100-150 μm in diameter, tetrasporangia tetrahedrally divided, tetrasporangial clusters near apical depressions.
