Description
Size: 16.5 cm.

Color: In preserved specimens reddish-brown, more or less silvery below. Fins yellowish.

Height 4, 5 in length with caudal. Head 3.7, 4.7 in length with caudal. Height of head, measured in vertical through hind border of preoperculum slightly more than length of head without operculum. Eye 3, equal to snout. Inter orbital space 1.5 in eye. Mouth oblique, maxillary reaching to below front border of eye. Narrow bands of teeth in anterior part of jaws. In the upper jaw an outer row of somewhat enlarged teeth and 3 moderate canines anteriorly on each side. In the lower jaw an outer row of rather strong, laterally almost caninoid teeth, those in front somewhat shorter. No canines in lower jaw. Suborbital emarginate, its depth less than twice in vertical diameter of eye, its hind border rather oblique, forming a more or less straight line, which, when produced, reaches the dorsal profile one scale before origin of dorsal. Hind border of preoperculum distinctly denticulate. Depth of naked limb of preoperculum about twice in the scaly part. Dorsal spines rigid and pungent. The membrane between the spines slightly emarginate. Five posterior spines sub equal, longer than the anterior ones and equal to post orbital part of head. Soft dorsal as high as spinous part. Third anal spine longest, less than soft part of anal, which is acutely pointed behind. Pectorals almost as long as head, ventrals slightly shorter, their first ray produced. Caudal rather deeply forked.
