Size: Trichomes 8-12 µm in diameter.

Plants forming a spongy, expanded turf, especially on submerged wood; dull green, 2-3 mm high; tapering to a short hair tip, cells one-half to one-third as long as their diameter; sheaths thick, firm, false branches occasional, often opposite; heterocysts basal only.
