Eye diameter 3.4-4.0 in head, 1.3-1.7 in snout and equal to or slightly less than convex interorbital space. Gape of mouth below lower border of eye. Pectoral fin about half length of snout shorter than head; ventral fin slightly shorter than pectoral. Third anal fin spine equal to or slightly longer than 2nd spine. Dorsal fin spines gradually increasing in length, last spine longest, 5th and 6th dorsal rays filamentous. Lateral line strongly arched.
Number of spines and rays in the dorsal fin: XIII, 23-25; number of spines and rays in the anal fin: III, 20-21; number of rays in the pectoral fin: 16; number of spines and rays in the ventral fin: I, 5; number of scale rows along the midside of body from the upper corner of operculum to the midbase of caudal fin in the absence of lateral line: 30-34; number of horizontal scale rows usually counted from origin of the dorsal fin to the lateral line and from anal origin to the lateral line: 5-6+14-16.
