Description
Plants with a short, stout main axis quickly divided into several slender branches which are usually muriculate. Leaves on the main branches and on the scattered short lateral branchlets, not crowded, rather thin, lanceolate to linear, 3-8 mm broad in the basal clusters, 1-3 mm broad on the erect branches, 3-7 cm long, acute, the margin irregularly serrate or the teeth obsolete. Costa evident, the cryptostomata of moderate size, rather few, in one irregular row on each side of it. Leaves on the basal parts of the plant sometimes pinnately divided.

Vesicles spherical, on the terete or often alate stalks, in length 1.0-1.5 times the vesicle diameter. Fertile branches axillary, verrucose, sparingly and loosely alternately branched, in length more or less equal to the subtending bract leaves, or in the upper parts of the plant subpaniculate by suppression of the bracts.
