Description
Plants forming minute dense felt-like growth of about 2 mm in height. Basal system filamentous, prostrate, irregularly branched, monostromatic, spreading over the surface of the host, sometimes penetrating inside and becoming endophytic. Cells of the prostrate system irregular in shape, 15-25 µ and 8-10 µ broad, having numerous chromatophores. Erect system arising from the cells of the prostrate system, the former composed of erect filaments and plurilocular sporangia. Erect filaments long, unequal, mostly unbranched, somewhat narrow at the bases, prolonged into hair-like form at the apices, with a basal meristem. Branches confined only to the lower region of the main filament, originating monopodially, and ending into likewise hair-like form. Cells of the filaments cylindrical, slightly constricted at cross-walls, 20-60 µ long and 9-15 µ broad, possessing 2-4 plate-like chromatophores.

Plurilocular sporangia terminal on short filaments rarely lateral on longer ones, 50-130 µ long and 14-21 µ broad. Sporangia elongated fusiform or linear lanceolate.

Epiphytic on the thallus of Dictyota atomaria.
