Thallus: in leaf-like clusters, 4-12 cm high, golden to dark brown; banding if present faint; calcification if present light on lower surface. Blades fan-shaped, 4-12 cm broad, 80-120(-160) µm thick, of 3, occasionally 4, cell layers; outer margin inrolled. Cells aligned in transverse section, (12-)20-30 µm wide, 40-60 µm long; upper surface 20-25(-30) µm thick; lower surface 25-30 µm thick; middle layer the largest, 30-70 µm thick, 60-130 µm long. Surface hairs absent or rare, reported in concentric lines on both sides of blade. Rhizoidal base tangled, matted. Fertile bands in concentric zones or separated sori midway between hair bands, on upper surface. Sporangia oval, 50-80 µm diam.
