Description
Size: Height 10-15 cm; breadth 4-9 cm; young plants 3-5 cm across.

Color: Dark brown

Plants prostrate, circular to fan-shaped when young. Older thalli erect and fan-shaped. Prostrate thalli possessing stipe formed of rhizoids. Upper portion entire or more or less lobate with variegated markings on concentric zones. Thallus composed of:
(a) An upper epidermis consisting of thin-walled, palisade-like cells, divided by vertical walls;
(b) Below this a tissue composed of 3-4 layers consisting of rather thick-walled cells, more or less isodiametric in form;
(c) Then a middle or medullary layer consisting of large, more or less thin-walled, rectangular cells; and
(d) Finally, in the lower side a tissue made up of four layers, consisting of thick-walled quadratic cells. The thallus on the whole 170-200 µ thick.
Reproductive bodies distributed on both sides of the lobes. Oogonia occurring singly or in small groups, being pear-shaped.
