Description
Color: Deep purple

Thallus dense, erect, turf-like; dull, dark red-brown; Plants 2.0-4.5 cm tall from a creeping base, sub-dichotomous below, alternately branched above and towards the tips fasciculate. Ramelli tardily deciduous, of determinate growth, on the younger branches alternately radially disposed, alternately branched, monosiphonous throughout, the cells about 28 µ diameter, 60 µ long or polysiphonous below, with the branchlets monosiphonous as above. Stichidia borne terminally on the polysiphonous branchlet bases, nearly cylindrical, tapering toward the apex, about 100 µ diameter and 900 µ long, with 4 tetrasporangia in a whorl, each about 55 µ diameter. Simple ramelli sometimes borne laterally on the stichidia. Rhizome slender, creeping; Rhizoids fine, filamentous.
