Thalli soft cartilaginous, cylindrical, 5-15 cm high, 2-4 mm broad, repeatedly branched in a dichotomo-divaricate manner, caespitose. Branches and branchlets conspicuously articulate-constricted to a sharp spine, articulations club-shape, ending in truncate.

In transverse section transition from medulla to cortex abrupt. Tetrasporangia cruciately divided. Cystocarps globoid, prominent, nutritive filaments present. Spermatangial pattern pocket-like.
