Taxonomy
Kingdom:Chromista
Phylum:Ochrophyta
Class: Phaeophyceae
Order:Fucales
Family:Sargassaceae

Description
Size: Height 30-50 cm

Thallus form and type: Ramified with obconical leaves

Substratum: Rocks

Occurrence: Infra littoral fringe and sub littoral zone, tide pools

Season: November-April

Abundance: Moderate

Plants large, bushy, attached to the substratum by means of a fibrous branched holdfast. Upper portion sparingly branched, more or less alternately or irregularly. Branches of the lower portion of the plants longer than those of the upper. Axes of the plants roughened in the lower region due to the presence of old leaf bases. Leaves alternate, 0.5-1.2 cm long; blade triangular, subconcave, with characteristic double row of spines on the surface. Stalk of the leaves triquetral. Vesicles immersed in the leaves.

Receptacles cymosely branched, attached to the stalk of the upper leaves.
