Thalli forming felts. Basal prostrate system endophytic, formed of an irregular plate of densely aggregated small cells, richly provided with chromatophores. Cells of the plate giving rise to long sinuate rhizoids. Erect system poorly branched, consisting of the pseudo-dichotomously or monopodially branched main filaments. Branches more or less equal to main axis, narrowing upwards with attenuated apices. Cells of the filaments 40-200 µ long and 10-14 µ broad, containing numerous short band-like chromatophores. Intercalary meristem lying in the middle of the main filament and at the base of the laterals.

Plants bearing only plurilocular sporangia, the latter lateral, sessile or sometimes pedicellate, oval or cylindrical, 30-35 µ and 20-27 µ broad. Sometimes sporangia with discharged contents also met with. In such an empty sporangium a proliferating branch is usually seen.
