Color: Pink, grey-yellow to yellow-brown with purplish tinge.

Thalli crustaceous, firmly adherent to substratum. Crust 0.9-3 mm or more thick. Hypothallium composed of 3 to several layers of rectangular cells, 14-20 µm long, 2-10 µm diameter. Cells of perithallium subquadrate, ovate to subrectangular, 4-12 µm diameter. Epithallium single layered.

In vertical section heterocysts arranged in horizontal rows of 4-11 cells, 25-45 µm high, 7-17 µm diameter. Cell fusion common between adjacent filaments in hypothallium and perithallium. Tetrasporangial conceptacles slightly convex, 150-210 µm inside diameter, uniporic, tetraspores borne on the periphery of sporangial conceptacle floor.
