Plant dark brown in color, 20-45 cm tall with terete leafless branched rhizomatous portion and erect axes; erect axes deciduous with alternate spiral filiform branches and brancheslets; vesicles elliptical innate in short branchlets; usuallyy single rarely catnate, receptacles terete branched verrucose, linear born on third or fourth order of branching.
