Description
Plants tufted, very briefly stipiate, to 20 cm tall, terete or somewhat compressed, the surface uneven, irregularly rugose; branching sparse and irregularly alternate or subdichotomous, the branches obtuse at the tips, about 2 mm diameter. Walls of 3-4 cell layers, the inner cells large; the outer cells small and polygonal, each with a single plate-like chromatophore. Hairs chiefly scattered, 8-9 µ diameter. Gametangia in irregular sori, cylindrical to clavate, 5-12 µ diameter, 20-40 µ long or more.
