Description
Color: Dark brown

Thallus form and type: Crustose

Substratum: intertidal rocks, calcareous stones

Occurrence: Infra littoral fringe, rock pools

Thalli fan-shaped or suborbicular, prostrate, in shelf-like layers, or erect in ruffled clusters, overlapping in clusters, about 4-6 cm long, 230-250 µm thick, upper portion entire, more or less lobate with marking variegated in concentric zones; lower surface with numerous descending rhizoids. Cortex composed of a layer of small, thin-walled cells in palisade-like arrangement, sub-cortex, 2-3 (-4) layers of rectangular cells and medulla composed of a single layer of central, large, thin-walled, marginal growing cells. Sporangia scattered on both sides of the thalli, obovate. Blades thin, overlapping or fan shaped; rhizoids basal or on lower surface in prostrate forms.
