Description
Size: Upto 2 m height

Erect undershrubs. Leaves opposite, oblong or elliptic, with or without marginal spines, always with an apical spine, glabrous, coriaceous. Spikes terminal, many flowered, lax to dense; bracts minutely ciliate, glabrous on dorsal side; bracteoles subtending the calyx, absent or fugacious; calyx deeply 4-partite, anterior and posterior segments largest; corolla tube short, on the inside top with a ring of hairs, 3-lobed, lower lip large, oavte-oboviate, white; stamens 4, in the throat; anthers medifixed; ovules 2 in each ovary cell, superposed; style bidenatte. Capsules ovoid-oblong, compressed, coriaceous. Seeds are tuberculate-rugose, glabrous.

Flowering season: March-June; Fruiting season: June-August.

This species can be distinguished from Acanthus volubilis by its shrubby growth and white color flowers.
