Plant dark red to yellowish red, 6 to10 cm tall or more, attached to the substratum by a disc arising from the basal part of the frond; frond dichotomously, alternately and irregularly branched, thick, cartilaginous, flat or compressed at lower parts, sub terete and closely branched above, apices pointed or spinuose; thallus consists of large medullary cells, 90 to 220 µm in diam.; a sub cortex with small pigmented cells, 10 to 30 µm in diam, and 1 to 2 cell thick cortex of pigmented cells, 7 to 10 µm in diam. ; tetraspoprangia scattered on branches, 30 to 37 µm long and 18 to 22 µm wide surrounded by modified cortical cells; antheridial sori scattered on the upper branches, 80 to130 µm in diam., antheridia found on the inner wall of a group of enlarged sub cortical cells; cystocarp dome-shaped, slightly rostrate, 1.0 to 1.4 mm in diam.; gonimoblast with large vacuolated cells, nutritive filaments penetrate tissue below gonimoblast; capospores round or oval, 18 to 22 µm in diam.
