Description
Sterile plants sub-cartilaginous in texture, forming extensive densely entangled mats to 2.5 cm thick. Branching in all directions, the branches spreading, the smaller ones spine-like; the slender branches concrescent, the ultimate divisions to 2.2 mm long subulate, tapering. Sporangial plants similar, but branches rather thicker than those in the sterile specimens, the sporangia in an annular zone at about the middle of each of the ultimate divisions.
