Description
Thalli forming extensive colonies, with branching stolons several decimeters in length, forming stout descending rhizoid-bearing branches below and erect foliar branchs above. The erect branches rarely simple, generally copiously forking, the tapering terete divisions forming a close cluster. Each branch normally with 2-3 rows of short, imbricate, generally terete, apiculate branchlets. Pinnules teeth like, assimilator axis straight. Frond erect, stiff, densely covered with short, vertically parallel branchlets; small bushy, sparsely branched; grass-green. branchlets knobby, tough, stiff, cone shaped, rhizome creeping, stoloniferous, rhizoids numerous, white-yellow.
