Description
Color: Dark green in color.

Thallus form and type: Intertidal rocks, calcareous stones

Occurrence: Lower mid littoral zone

Season: November-April

Plants erect, becoming large, reaching 1.0-1.5 m in length, sparingly dichotomously branched or very bushy, seldom proliferous; branches terete, 6-25 mm diameter and flattened only at the forks, or flattened throughout and at the forks to 6 cm broad. Utricles cylindrical or clavate, 220-500 (115-850) µ diameter, 1100-1750(790-2000) µ long. Apices rounded, truncate or depressed, the terminal wall 4-8 µ thick. Hairs or scars variable, numerous when present, in a zone 145-330 µ below the apex. Gametangia lance-ovoid (58-)72-125 µ diameter, 185-300 (144-390) µ long, several (to 7) on a fertile utricle, pedicellate, the stalks 10-15 µ long, borne 430-650 µ below the apices of the fertile utricles.
