Thallus expands to form an incrustation layer closely attached to the substratum, aplanate, lobed at margins, firm, dark green, 2.5-10 mm thick, 10 cm diameter, utricles in large clusters, clavate or cylindrical, 44-175 µm diameter, 370-600 µm long, 60-135 µm diameter at the apex, gradually tapering to 30-37 µm in diameter at base, inner filaments 20-30 µm in diameter, gametangium ellipsoid to cylindrical, 45-75 µm in diameter, 240-300 µm long with a short stalk.
