Description
Size: 20-35 cm in height.

Color: Dark brown

Basal portion forming a rhizomatous compact disc. Upper portion subpalmate, irregularly divided sub-dichotomously. Thallus segments attenuated at the bases and apices, being 1-3 cm broad, margins sinuate, provided with small teeth, more especially in the lower regions of the thallus. Large or small proliferations frequently arising from the margins. Thallus composed of superficial layers enclosing about 3-4 layers of cells in between; cells of the former more or less palisade-like, thin-walled, and richly provided with chromatophores; cells of the latter large, angular, thick walled, being isodiametric to horizontally elongated, with fewer chromatophores.

Reproductive bodies scattered over both the surfaces of the thallus. Tetrasporangia globular, usually occurring singly.
