Description
Length: 20 cm

Color: Thallus dark green but turning yellowish with age.

Plant body filamentous, erect; growing singly or in tufts, anchored by a prominent elongate hold fast cell. Holdfast cell supported by rhizoids developed from the basal cells of the thallus which later coalesce into a disc.

Filaments coarse without any constriction at the transverse septa of the cells; cells barrel shaped, visible to the naked eye; cells become almost spherical when fertile.

Occurs epilithic on intertidal rocks and pebbles.
