Thalli irregularly vesicular when young, sessile by broad attachments, later developing numerous perforations becoming characteristically reticulate, with involute margins, 10-15 mm across the net.

In transverse section, thalli very thin about 250-300 µm thick, the cortex consisting of small, pigmented quadrate cells, 8-10 µm diameter and the medulla composed of several layers of large, colorless parenchymatous cells, 70-80 µm diameter, colorless hairs grouped in shallow depressions of the surface layer. Plurangia densely scattered over the surface of the thalli, biseriate, 22-25 µm long, 6-9 µm diameter.
