Size: 25.1 cm.

Color: In preserved specimen brownish above, light below. Sides of head dotted with dark. A dark saddle on back behind head and below posterior part of second dorsal. First dorsal black, second dorsal hyaline, the rays dusky, darker distally and tipped with white. Anal dusky, white distally. Pectorals and caudal dark, freckled with black and edged with white. Ventrals dusky.

Height 4.4, 5.5 in length with caudal. Head 2.3,2.9 in length with caudal. Breadth of head 1.4 in its length. Eye 8.4, 1.5 in snout and 1.7 in slightly convex inter orbital space. Bony plates of head and opercular bones rugose, pitted. Preorbital anteriorly with a spine. Preopercle with 4 spines along its lower border, sub opercle with one spine. Suprascapular bony plate with a longer outer spine, directed backwards and a smaller inner one, directed inwards. Humeral spine horizontal, about twice eye. Lips with a row of short fleshy tentacles. A few rows of rather strong pointed teeth in the jaws. An elongate transverse patch of similar teeth on the vomer, and a small patch on anterior part of palatines. Longest spine of first dorsal equal to inter orbital space. Third ray of second dorsal longest, equal to distance between hind border of eye and suprascapular spine. Rays rapidly decreasing in length posteriorly, the last ray equal to inter orbital space. Origin of anal below that of second dorsal, both fins of equal length. Posterior anal rays slightly longer than anterior ones, and slightly more than inter orbital space. Pectorals as long as post orbital part of head, ventrals twice in head. Pelvic spines behind vertical through antero-inferior edge of maxillary. Caudal truncate.
