Description
Color: Dark purple to brownish red, sometimes greenish purple

Thalli soft membranous, 2-6 cm high, caespitose to turf-forming. Branching cylindrical, alternate or opposite, 1-1.5 mm in diameter, gradually tapering towards apex, the apices blunt. The hollow segments cask-shaped, 0.65-1 mm long, 0.5-0.8 mm wide. In transverse section, single layer of cells with central cavity interrupted by diaphragms, gland cells on the wall of the cavity. Tetrasporangia tetrahedrally divided. Cystocarps spherically elevated.
