Taxonomy
Kingdom:Chromista
Phylum:Ochrophyta
Class: Phaeophyceae
Order:Dictyotales
Family:Dictyotaceae

Description
Size: Height 15-20 cm.

Color: Yellowish-brown in upper portions and blackish brown near basal portions.

Thallus form and type: Ramiform and foliose or ribbon shaped

Substratum: Intertidal rocks, coralline stones

Occurrence: Mid littoral and lower littoral areas

Season: November-April

Plants with a thick basal disc forming the holdfast. Upper portion repeatedly dichotomously branched. Branches linear, being broad at the base, but narrowing gradually towards the apices, 2-5 mm, broad, internodal segments 1-2.5 cm long, margins entire, angles between the branches wide, about 80°, apices equal rarely slightly unequal, rounded, sometimes acute. Thallus composed of superficial layers enclosing a middle layer. Cells of the former small, thin-walled, rectangular, with numerous chromatophores; cells of the latter, thick-walled, with fewer chromatophores.

Reproductive bodies scattered over the surface of the thallus. Anteridia and oogonia in sori, the former more or less club-shaped. Oogonia spherical; tetrasporangia on both sides, scattered, spherical, occurring singly or in groups of two. Gametangia in scattered sori.
