Color: Darkish blue above; dorsal and ventrals blackish; vertical bluish bands faint on sides; base of dorsal with numerous blackish blotches.

The rostrum is sharp, pointed, moderately long being about a fourth of the total body length. First dorsal conspicuous, being enlarged into a large sail with the anterior spines moderately long and the middle ones much longer, the longest of the spines being more than three times the depth of the body. The greatest body depth is about 1/10 the total length. The second dorsal is small, the gap between the first dorsal and second dorsal having short stumpy spines.
