Color: Brown to blue dorsally, sides gray, belly whitish with dusky spots, all fins black tipped, pectorals and pelvics dusky, adipose blackish.

Head 3.75, width 1.33 in furkal length. Snout 2.5 in head, mouth broadly crescentic, three pairs of barbels, maxillary pairs slender and reach base of pectorals but shorter in old specimens. Head-shield somewhat rugose. Median fontonelle groove on head deep and long, running from tip of snout to supra-occipital process. Supra-occipital process striated and granulated, slightly longer than broad. Teeth on palate granular or molar-like in two semioval patches, in younger fish these teeth are few and scattered. Dorsal and pectoral fins with a strong spine. Adipose small.
