Size: 86 mm.

Color: In preserved specimens brown, the fins light brown, the vertical fins dark edged.

Height 2.85-3.2, 3.85-4.2 in length with caudal. Head 3.2-3.5, 4.2-4.8 in length with caudal. Eye 3.5-3.6, 1.1-1.4 in snout, and slightly more than convex interorbital space. Mouth small, oblique. Maxillary reaching to below front border of pupil. Villi form bands of teeth in jaws, on vomer, and on anterior part of palatines. Preorbital with two spines, the upper one reaching to below middle of eye, the lower one much smaller. Hind border of preopercle with a short, blunt spine, four smaller ones below it. Origin of dorsal on snout, before eyes. First dorsal spine equal to eye, second one 4 or 5 times as long, longer than head, third somewhat shorter than second, fourth and following spines subequal, as long as postorbital part of head. Soft dorsal pointed, the longest rays as long as head without snout. Anal spines increasing in length to the third, which equals postorbital part of head in length. Soft anal pointed, the longest rays as long as those of dorsal. All dorsal and anal rays simple. Pectorals longer than head, the 9 or 10 posterior rays forked. Ventrals equal to head without snout. Caudal rounded. Lateral line with about 18-22 tubes. Scales small, not imbricate. Head naked.
