Description
Max. size: 3.9 cm SL

Dorsal spines (total): 0-0, Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-9, Anal spines: 0, Anal soft rays: 11–12, Vertebrae: 36–39. Body bright silvery in color, body and trunk with dusky coloration at night. Light organs are present. Branchiostegal rays: 10. Sexual dimorphism with regard to body size, the males being slightly smaller than the females.

Dioecious, oviparous, with planktonic eggs and larvae, spawning frequency is variable throughout range, spawns more than once per season with egg batches about 50-500 egg/ovary pair, the number increasing with increased animal size, external fertilization, nonguarders of eggs, open water/substratum egg scatterers.
