Description
Size: 4-5 cm

Color: Body silvery, with light band on sides.

Body subelongate, compressed. Ventral and dorsal profile almost evenly convex. Eye about 2¼–3, nearly equal to or a little longer than snout and about equal to postorbital part of head. Two or one hardly conspicuous small ridges on each side of vertex. Maxillary reaching somewhat beyond front margin of eye, somewhat more than twice in head. Origin of dorsal a little nearer to root of caudal than to snout. First anal about equal to half length of head, second anal remote from first. Pectorals about as long as head without snout. Scutes are present behind pectoral fin base. There are 10 pre-pelvic and 6 post-pelvic scutes present. Origin of ventrals hardly in front of that of dorsal. Minute teeth on jaws, palatines and tongue. Scales smooth. Eighteen distinct abdominal spines, six being postventral. Silvery, back dark, fins hyaline. Twenty two slender gillrakers, conspicuously longer than branchial filaments and pupil.
